All American Quarter Horse Congress 2018

All American Quarter Horse Congress – October 2-28, 2018

The 51st annual All American Quarter Horse Congress, hosted by the Ohio Quarter Horse Association (an American Quarter Horse Association state affiliate), will take place at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio starting Tuesday, October 2 and will run through Sunday, October 28.

World’s Largest Single-Breed Horse Show Rakes in Astounding $382 Million

From Rags to Riches: 1965 – 2018

In 1965, the Ohio Quarter Horse Association’s state board was a group of humble horse owners who had to pass a hat to raise funds to purchase an office typewriter. Today, their prestigious “Congress” event generates an impressive $382 Million for the Central Ohio economy.

What started as a 3-day event, presently expands nearly the entire month of October; including a trade show, PBR bull riding event, and the 52nd Annual Super Sale.

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association’s mission, in part, is to “protect and promote the Quarter Horse and interest of owners, breeders, exhibitors, and enthusiasts”.

They certainly have accomplished this over a lifetime of integrity and dedication.

Montana Silversmiths, the official silversmith of the 2018 Quarter Horse Congress, will be donating over 400 gold and silver buckles to the National Youth Activity Team Tournament, slated for Sunday, October 21.
Montana Silversmiths, the official silversmith of the 2018 Quarter Horse Congress, will be donating over 400 gold and silver buckles to the National Youth Activity Team Tournament, slated for Sunday, October 21.

Proof in the numbers:

Last year, there were 24,500 entries, with over $3 Million in cash and prizes awarded to the winners of various divisions; and there were over 650,000 people who attended the event.

The Quarter Horse Congress show will also include the largest collegiate and youth judging competitions, with over 65 teams of college, 4-H, FFA and Quarter Horse Youth Members.

There are 9.2 Million Quarter Horses in the United States; 307,000 of which are in Ohio.

Overall, there are 4.6 Million people involved in the Equine Industry in some way.

The Equine Industry, as a whole, has a direct economic impact of $39 Billion – with a “B” – annually!

Horse Nation Indian Relay Races – “Championship of Champions” Finals

Friday, September 21 – Sunday, September 23

Friday – 6:30pm

Saturday – 2:00pm

Sunday – 2:00pm

Held in conjunction with the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds. And, as the website for the Walla Walla event states:

“The Walla Walla County Fairgrounds and Fair have a storied past ~ a place “where memories are made that last a lifetime” and while the name may have changed throughout the years, this great community event and tradition lives on, creating memories for the young and the young at heart!”

The sport of Indian Relay Racing is the #1 Native American extreme sporting event; involving the tribes of the Great Plains. It combines accomplished riding skills with evasive maneuvers that have evolved from the ancestral traditions of warriors and hunting parties.

Each relay team consists of four members and three horses:

➽  Rider (mounted)

➽  Mugger (set-up man to position the horse)

➽  Catcher (to catch dismounted horse)

➽  Back Holder (to rotate the exchange horses)

Mounted team riders race around a ½ mile track at speeds of up to 40 MPH! They hardly slow, as they lap and prepare to make a flying leap to the next of a total of three horses, held be a Team Mugger; and make another high-speed lap.

This is full, pedal-to-the-metal action; and it’s all based upon traditional, Native American Cultural history. No saddles, no boots, no spurs. Chiefs, Warriors, and Maidens ride fearlessly for the win.

There’s really no comparison to this action-packed sport; carried on by the descendants of America’s original residents.

The Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, (HNIRC), are bringing in the Tribes of the Great Plains and converging in Walla Walla, Washington for the “Championship of Champions” Finals!  It is truly one of the most exciting races in the sport of horse racing.

CLN Insider Info: The Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days event, although held under different names and at different locations in the general area, is in its 152nd year. Characters from past events include the infamous Ruth Parton Webster (1895-1978). Known as “the mother of thoroughbred racing”, Ruth began her racing career on the Yakima Reservation as a young girl, racing Thoroughbreds. During her career, she earned the title of “World’s Champion Woman Relay Racer”. She eventually retired in 1929.

The fans of rodeo all over the world will see themselves gripping the edge of their seats as the action from the Professional Bull Riders U.S Border Patrol events unfold right in front of their eyes. On the 22nd and the 23rd of September, Fairfax, Virginia will be lit up with the action from the Professional Bull Riders circuit coming to the city. This is not one of the Professional Bull Rider events that takes place every year.

This is the very reason why it is so special. It brings together all the good things about the long running rodeo action to Fairfax, Virginia. The fact that it does not happen every year does not mean the event is not popular. In fact, it gets sold out every time so you should better get your family and yourself the tickets because this is just around the corner.

History of the Professional Bull Rider Organization

The Professional Bull Riders organization was established over two decades ago. The manner in which it happened was quite simple. The Midwest has always enjoyed their share of rodeo and bull riding from the days gone by. The culture has always been rich and plentiful. One faithful day, about a couple dozen professional bull riders banded together 24 years ago. They transformed the traditional sport into an international phenomena. Over the course of these two decades, the Professional Bull Riders circuit has amassed over a 100 million fans the world over. There are thousands attending the events themselves and millions more glued to their TV screens. With over $100 million in prize money rewarded to professional bull riders over the two decades, it is safe to say that they are quite successful. It is not just the amount of money the organization is making. Throughout the circuit’s travels in the country for every event, there is a lot of charity work the PBR is involved in as well. They also provide the cities they travel to with opportunities to improve their infrastructure.

25TH PBR: Atlantic City Invitational

The Professional Bull Riders Circuit is going to make its way to Atlantic City, New Jersey soon as one of the last few stops before things head on over to Las Vegas for the World Finals.

Among the bulls this time around, you will find some of the most fearsome beasts. They will be taking on some of the best battle hardened bull riders from all over the country and the world.

The determination of the bulls to cause pain to the bull riders can only be matched by one thing. That is the ferocity of the brave (some may say crazy) cowboys looking to tame these behemoths.

Taking place this year on the 15th and the 16th of September, the Atlantic City Professional Bull Riders and Built Ford Tough Series event is going to be one to remember.

With the Professional Bull Riders circuit coming to Atlantic City, the city is abuzz. Everybody is excited as the city will host one of the best rodeo events in the world.

The venue for the event itself will be the Broadwalk Hall. One of the most befitting places to have an event of this magnitude, this will be one of the most memorable nights for Atlantic City, New Jersey.

There will be plenty for everybody to enjoy at the event, as the people from New Jersey will find there is more than just extreme sports action to be enjoyed.

The events and activities will include performances from some of the best entertainers from the country.

Rodeo Naked presents the 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo in Queen Creek, Arizona!

Mark your calendars rodeo fans because Rodeo Naked is returning to Queen Creek, Arizona for the 2nd Annual Rodeo Naked Benefit Rodeo! In conjunction with Rodeo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and the Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo Association (GCPRA,) Rodeo Naked is proud to bring their 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo to Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre on September 21st and September 22nd. Both performances will begin at 7:00 pm and are jam-packed with rodeo fun that the entire family can enjoy.

Photo Courtesy of Keene Design Photography

But who and what is Rodeo Naked? I was fortunate to interview Rodeo Naked’s founder, TJ Spoonhunter, and get a behind-the-scenes scoop on the company and its 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo.

Spoonhunter, a Bareback and Bull rider, founded the clothing line Rodeo Naked in 2015 with the aim of creating a fashion line that would help up-and-coming cowboys and cowgirls make their rodeo dreams a reality. With each and every purchase from Rodeo Naked’s line, a portion of each sale is donated to help fund competition expenses for Rodeo Naked’s sponsored cowboys and cowgirls.

However, it isn’t only the cowboys and cowgirls that Rodeo Naked’s proceeds benefit. When asked about where the money from merchandise and rodeos is donated to, Spoonhunter shared, “last year we hosted our first benefit rodeo and it helped the victims of Hurricane Harvey. I personally drove all the donations to Houston and surrounding areas from Arizona and volunteered at the Red Cross, delivering food and goods to shelters and churches that were in need.” When asked about the proceeds that will be collected from the 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo, Spoonhunter explained that “this year with all the fires in California, we plan on donating the proceeds to the first responders and the families affected by the fires. On the local level, we want to do something for our Veterans. There is a program called Horses for Heroes run by Hoofbeats with Heart that we want to donate to, where we can sponsor veterans with PTSD through equine therapy!”

This year’s 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo is sure to carry on the Rodeo Naked tradition of community involvement and the continued support of current and future rodeo competitors. Spoonhunter explained that it is important for Rodeo Naked to be involved because, “Rodeo Naked is a means to be free and rodeo. With what I want to accomplish with the brand, putting on this rodeo gives our contestants another rodeo to compete in, keeping their dreams and the rodeo way of life alive. Up and coming contestants are our future and if we keep providing opportunities for them to do so, it will keep the sport alive. As a member and director of the Grand Canyon Professional Rodeo Association I want to bring as much to the table as possible to help grow the organization and give these contestants another rodeo to add to their season. Not only does a rodeo help the contestants, but it also provides other businesses an opportunity to sponsor and become a vendor to help promote their business. I believe it is important for Rodeo Naked to be involved, because we give back to a great cause and help support the future of our sport.”

Rodeo Naked will be returning to Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre (20464 East Riggs Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142) for their 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo. In addition to the full GCPRA lineup, Rodeo Naked is excited to announce that this year, a kid’s rodeo has been added, including Mutton Bustin’, Steer Riding, and Junior Barrel Racing.  The kid’s rodeo will occur at 5pm before each GCPRA performance. Gates will open at 4pm. The rodeo will also include two themed nights, one honoring first responders and the second honoring our past and present servicemen and women of the Armed Forces. Immediately following the Saturday evening performance, rodeo guests can also attend the 2nd Annual Benefit Rodeo Dance.
