Mason Lowe Tribute

The entire western industry is still reeling from the news of late Mason Lowe. No one expects this kind of thing, nor is prepared for it. On January 15th, 2019 Mason Lowe was riding in the National Western PBR Chute-Out when the bull he was riding stepped on his chest. According to Sean Gleason, CEO of the Professional Bull Riders, that he died as a result of injuries sustained while in competition.

“The entire PBR and National Western sports family extends our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to Mason’s wife Abbey and his family.” – Sean Gleason

The 25-year-old cowboy from Exeter, Missouri, was number 18 in the World Rankings and was ready to go to the top this year. In the seven years, he was a part of the PBR, he qualified for the world finals twice. According to the PBR media guide, “Lowe began his bull-riding career as a toddler, when his dad let him get on the family’s milk cows.” When he was just 15 he began to compete in amateur bull riding in the Midwest and just a few years later joined the PBR’s elite tour.

Cowboy Lifestyle Network had the pleasure of hanging out with Mason on multiple occasions and can only say that heaven gained a great cowboy. As our team took a trip down memory lane, we remembered to be thankful for the time and the opportunities we have to meet great athletes like Mason and to not take anything for granted. With that being said, we give our most heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

Bullfighters Only Barrett Jackson Invitational 2019

Scottsdale, Arizona-

For the first time ever Bullfighters Only is coming to Barrett Jackson Car Auction 2019. Bullfighters Only are whipping out all the stops and are bringing ten of their top freestyle bullfighters to bring the best, man vs. beast show.  BFO’s Founder, Aaron Ferguson is excited to be a part of Barrett Jackson, according to a recently published article regarding the event.

“We are very excited to be a part of the legendary Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction,” said BFO’s founder, Aaron Ferguson. “Presenting our sport to new audiences is what we are all about. The combination of Barrett-Jackson and BFO should prove to be the perfect fit.”

The bullfighters will have up to 60 seconds to gain as many points possible. A perfect score is 100-points but bullfighters have the opportunity to earn up to 50 extra points by exhibiting style and control while maneuvering around and jumping over the fighting bull. The bull, bred for this type of fight, can also tally up to 50 points for its speed, aggressiveness and willingness to stay engaged in the match.

If you are new to the sport of Freestyle Bullfighting, let us lay it out for you. Everyone is familiar with the Mexican Fighting Bulls, Freestyle Bullfighting is nothing like that at all. In fact, the bullfighters themselves are at a disadvantage being that they are going up against a 1,000 pound animal with minimal protection. A bullfighter’s job at a rodeo would be to protect the rider from getting hurt after he comes off the bull, our friends at BFO took a step further and made a competition out of it.

One of their featured fighters,  Andres Gonzalez, is sponsored by one of our very own local businesses, WSM Auctioneers, check them out if you haven’t already!

You can catch the action every night at 7:30 pm at the WestWorld Equidome in Scottsdale. You can get your tickets ahead of time by clicking the banner below. Make sure to follow Cowboy Lifestyle Network as we cover the event live on Facebook and Instagram!

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo FWSSR 2019

Fort Worth, TX January 18 – February 9, 2019

Every year from the end of January to the first week of February, cowboys, and cowgirls come from across the country to participate in the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Just as the title suggests, it is much more than just a rodeo. Agriculture plays a huge part in the festivities as well, with both 4-H and FFA competing in their own specialty events.

The FWSSR kicks off with the annual All Western Parade on January 19, 2019, in Downtown Fort Worth. Along with numerous animal shows and auctions, all are welcome to enjoy the carnival, browse the vendor displays and attend the various rodeos that are scheduled to take place. The Coors Light Roadhouse has a long list of musicians scheduled, who will be sure to provide top-notch entertainment.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo History

The FWSSR began in 1896 when ranchers brought their cattle to auction. Representatives of meat-packing houses arrived to choose prime beef. In 1917, the show included cowboy riding contests. One year later, rodeo events included cowboy and cowgirl bronc riding along with adult and junior steer riding. Since Western sporting events increased attendance at the show, sponsors began increasing the number of rodeo events. By 1920, bull riding was added to the rodeo lineup. Bareback-bronc riding was added in 1927.

In 1932, NBC was the first radio station to broadcast the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. NBC was also the first television network to broadcast the Texas sporting event on live television in 1958. That year, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and other notable Western stars made an appearance. Today, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo generate millions of dollars in revenue, much of which is given in the form of grants and scholarships.

National Western Stock Show and Rodeo 2019

Denver, Colorado January 12-27th, 2019

It is that time of the year again to head to Denver, Colorado for the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. Get ready for 16 days packed full of events that celebrate western heritage and entertainment. Since 1906, the NWSS has been one of the premier destinations for livestock, rodeo and horse show lovers across the country.

NWSS attracts around 650,000 visitors each year and is home to one of the largest Western trade shows in Colorado. There is a multitude of vendors that specialize in everything from western accessories to BBQ. If you are looking to get your fill of shopping, rodeo and western lifestyle, the NWSS is a great place to start.

To kick off the festivities, the annual National Western Stock Show Kick-Off Parade will be taking place on January 10th at Union Station in Denver. To follow the longhorns there will be plenty of other cowboys, cowgirls, tractors, marching bands and floats all celebrating Colorado’s western traditions.

There is something for everyone at the National Western Stock Show, whether you are interested in livestock, rodeo, or the Colorado Rocky Mountain Fiddle Championships, which takes place on January 12th. The NWSS also hosts 20 Pro Rodeo Performance for those looking for a little more action. Make sure to check out their full schedule and ticket information on their website: NationalWestern.com
